Hope entered the Good Karma Initiative on August 25, 2026, when she was pulled from the shelter alongside Chance.

At the shelter, both dogs were completely shut down. They trembled with fear, struggled to move, refused to walk, had fear-related accidents, and showed the wide, worried eyes of dogs who simply didn't know what was going to happen next. Even in that level of fear, Hope has shown no growling, biting, or attempts to hurt anyone. Her instinct has been to retreat and make herself small.

Right now, we're not asking much of her.

Before obedience, before leash skills, and before preparing for adoption, Hope needs to learn something much more important: she is safe.

And we're already beginning to see little glimpses of the dog underneath all that fear.

Once Hope starts to feel safe with someone, she craves affection. She seeks out pets and reassurance and begins to let herself enjoy being close to the person she trusts. Those small moments mean everything right now.

There is still so much about Hope that we don't know—and that's okay. She's only at the beginning of her journey with us.

For now, we're giving her time. We're letting her decompress. We're building trust without rushing her. Giving her the opportunity to discover that people, new environments, and new experiences don't always have to be frightening.

As Hope becomes more comfortable, we'll begin introducing training and confidence-building at a pace she can handle. And as her personality starts to emerge, we'll learn more about what she loves, what she needs, and eventually, what kind of forever family she needs beside her.

Hope isn't available for adoption just yet.

Right now, she has one job:

Learn that she's safe.
